Contemporary Elegance in The Ranch

filed under: Uncategorized posted on June 25th, 2014

It starts with great bones. This beautiful Rancho Santa Fe ranch home had a head start with a dynamic and open floor plan with lots of light. Originally built in the late 1980’s and remodeled once in the ’90’s, it was ready for an update. The only thing we left untouched on the interior were the lovely Crema Marfil polished marble floors in the entry and kitchen and we chose to compliment them with textures that countered what was leaning toward fussy. Let me show you what I mean;

The entry was dramatic before we added our touches

Lovely though it was, it didn’t look like anyone ever used this room. We thought it would get a lot more functional use if we gave it a distinct purpose. In this case, we created a lounge area where the homeowners and their guests could enjoy conversation in a casual but more intimate setting without the distraction of television in the room.

Between the living room/ lounge and the kitchen is a bar, a handy location for our new lounge. We thought it should open into the kitchen area adding light and visibility from the kitchen into the entry.

Which brings us to the heart of the home- the kitchen. The original kitchen was a product of the 1980’s for sure and the room had plenty of space in which to create a beautiful and wonderfully functional working space.

KITCHEN BEFORE

We replaced the cabinets and added lots of glass and light. The counters are a beautiful brushed marble which contrast nicely with the walnut butcher block island and breakfast bar.  Contemporary and artful lighting add dimension and define the space.

The dining room was, in our opinion, under-utilized with out-dated faux paint and furniture that was too small for the room. We deleted the carpet, added wood floors and a tongue and groove wood ceiling and designed custom dining furniture to make this room really stand out. The window coverings echo the spherical element found in the light fixtures.

This master bedroom is elegant and effortless. The walls are wrapped in lovely Phillip Jeffries wallpaper and the dual chandeliers in lieu of table lamps are one of our favorite innovations.

The master bathroom is the perfect place to relax and prepare for the new day.  We replaced a carpeted floor with Crema Marfil Rubble tile from Arizona Tile and polished nickel plumbing fixtures add just the right touch.

The master shower is a family favorite.  Crema Marfil and Emperador Dark basketweave tile accent the travertine perfectly.

This powder room was head to toe faux. Now it is elegant in silk Phillip Jeffries wallpaper and Mexican Noce vein cut travertine.
